I can't see how things are going to get better. There are just two levels of society now - them and us. Little nobodies given too much power just because they have some kind of badge or polyester uniform. Look at the border control people at the airport. They stopped a friend of ours - a mother-earth tree-huggy lady of 62, wearing sensible flat sandals, a long denim skirt and a baggy top, and actually took her into a room where they made her remove her bra and took it away to examine. They questioned my husband at length as to why he had 8 paperback books in his bag, remarking that it seemed a rather high number of books for anybody to carry. And unless you are prepared to tug your forelock to them they can delay you quite long enough to miss your flight. I tried to top up mine and my wife’s monthly Oyster cards at a ticket counter, only to be told by the chap behind thick glass that he’d be happy to renew mine but, couldn’t do that for my wife’s card, out of fear I might not be on good terms with her!

“You’re kidding, right?” I said.

“O no, how do we know you won’t run off with your wife’s card.” “Her name’s on it, not yours, so we’ll keep it for now.” Then, smart ass cashier told me, “Have your wife come here, present a valid picture ID and we’ll gladly return her card.” “Only she can collect her card, no one else.”

“Gosh, it’s so nice to know London Underground employees such strict rule followers like yourself,” I said, as I turned and left the station in a huff.

My wife was livid, needless to say.
Diplo_Daddyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349376430486545451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18862674.post-43348682774402787512013-01-08T21:12:25.007+01:002013-01-08T21:12:25.007+01:00Sounds like it would be a full-time job repealing ...Sounds like it would be a full-time job repealing all those stupid laws.
