I do agree, Coli...I think that joke is very funny.

I do agree, Colin, that the Bible just presents knowledge that was available at the time, and nothing blatantly ahead of its time, such as the idea that the earth is round. It is so obviously the work of the guys at the time, although, certain bits were left out. Perhaps those contained incomprehensible stuff such as the earth turning around the sun...Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13195684182481935384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18862674.post-1382425361169058922007-01-26T07:38:00.000+01:002007-01-26T07:38:00.000+01:00Well, I for one have only just this minute done so...Well, I for one have only just this minute done so, beepbeepetc. I'm not really into the "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin' school of speculation, but I did enjoy your Garden of Eden joke. Hope you won't object if I reproduce it here (seeing as how Sarah needs some cheering up after her Paris trip):

Adam was walking around the Garden of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked Adam, “What is wrong with you?” Adam said he didn’t have anyone to talk to. God said he was going to give him a companion and she would be called woman.

God said, “This person will cook for you and wash your clothes, she will always agree with every decision you make. She will bear your children and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will not nag you, and will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you’ve had a disagreement. She will never have a headache, and will freely give “love” and compassion whenever needed.” Adam asked God, “What will this woman cost?” God said, “An arm and a leg.” Adam said, “What can I get for just a rib?”

The rest is history…

PS Hippo is preparing his magnum opus, shortly to be unveiled on my blog. It's his plan to save the world. Clue: the answer lies in the soil (as that old yokel used to say on the radio in my youth, with "lies" pronounced "loys", and "soil" as "sawyul".sciencebodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12051016731274875332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18862674.post-25090764762770834472007-01-25T23:35:00.000+01:002007-01-25T23:35:00.000+01:00Thanks for visitng my blog. Like the Earth is round, or there used to dinosaurs, or the air is 1/5th oxygen, that all that oxygen comes from green plants etc.
Instead it offers no enlightment whatsoever about the natural world. It's exactly the kind of document one might expect from folk living a largely pastoral existence. It lacks obvious signs of divine inspiration. Put another way, it has human fingerprints all over it. The Jesuits etc with their keen minds were well aware ot its inconsistencies and other shortcomings. No wonder Rome felt the need, at least in the Middle Ages, until the Rennaisance era, to keep it under lock and key.sciencebodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12051016731274875332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18862674.post-36894107364653028892007-01-23T22:02:00.000+01:002007-01-23T22:02:00.000+01:00Gosh, Colin, I think you're on to something there!...Gosh, Colin, I think you're on to something there!Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13195684182481935384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18862674.post-24214128277859744622007-01-23T18:29:00.000+01:002007-01-23T18:29:00.000+01:00No, come on, NG. Rome, after all, has never taken so literal a view of scripture as the Protestants. In fact, The Vatican did not allow bibles into its hurches for a long time, as I recall, believing that to do so would cause no end of problems with folk it considered half-educated.
