Boys Galore

We've been having a glimpse of Spring here - 17°C yesterday and it must have been the same today earlier. Only a couple of weeks ago I'd been saying how fed up I was with Winter and here we are bathing (briefly?) in an early Spring. It's certainly got my bulbs confused - they are sprouting all over the garden and I'm now certain we'll have a really cold spell and the frost will nip them in the bud. That happened last year and some of my bulbs never flowered. Hope they weren't ruined for life...

There's been lots of excitement in our house this week in anticipation of a weekend visit by my eldest's best buddy and his brother. Their mother was in a fix for someone to look after them, ex-husband wouldn't change weekends, so she turned to me in desperation. I said 'sure!' so here they are. Or aren't... they are off with my two exploring the wilds of round-about, venturing onto the 'Terre du Milieu' (as my two call some piece of wasteland) and probably buying sweets in the village.

In honour of this visit, I told my youngest that we would have to get to grips with tidying his bedroom this morning. Not only were toys everywhere, but there was sand from the beach, bits of dried mud from football boots, bits of sponge from a large soft toy train that had split and started spewing bits everywhere, and confetti from last year's carnival that had got spilt in a big pile and started migrating round the room. You can understand why I had not been able to face this herculean taste previously...

My youngest started putting things 'away' while I was shopping and after a cup of coffee to recover and prepare me for the next task, I made my way in with bin bags, hoover and dustpan and brush. Two weary hours later we hadn't finished but I was losing the will to live and it was good enough. You can now walk to his bed - before, he was hopping skipping and jumping, or crunching his way over toys, sand and bits of rubbish. We haven't seen that much floor in his room for months!

While the boys have been doing hearty things outside, I've been putting up the goal post my youngest got for Christmas. It took a while, but I only had to undo one thing which is gratifying! It now looks terrific as it has a training sheet with two holes in so he can practice aiming his kicks. Wonder if Zidane had one...

  1. Oh thank goodness, I thought my kids' rooms were the only ones like that. I've been getting them to clean up by doing one small area at a time but of course by the time you've got to the end .........

  2. There are some tidy children in the world, or ones with maniacal mothers who cannot bear to see a single speck of dust or disorder anywhere in the house (control issues...) and browbeat their kids non-stop to tidy up, but that's not our case...

My youngest, in particular, has taken untidiness to new heights. It's truly impressive in an OMG sort of way!
