Yokes of Old

Today is the 4th of July, the day, as one of my American pals put it "we celebrate casting off the yoke of pommy oppression".

What I say is, was it such a brilliant idea? I mean, look at Canada which chose to be part of the Commonwealth - how peaceful and unassuming it is... The Americans landed themselves with Bush as Prez. Had they stayed under British wing they would never have got themselves into such a pickle.

I can but shake my head sadly. Especially when I read articles such as this on Cincinatti's Creationist Museum. Didn't anyone tell them Creationism is just a laugh? It would never have happened if the 'pommy yoke' had not been cast off!

Sometimes folks just don't know what's good for them, and won't be told, I'm sure. Well, there you have it, when people don't listen, you get drivel such as Creationist Theory and Scientology being spouted instead adherence to good old C of E credence.

You also get a thick idiot in charge of the most powerful army in the world, elected, God knows how, by trickery and fraud. If the Queen had been in charge she'd have had his head off!

It's a sad day then for us on the older, wiser side of the Pond. I shall shed what I can muster by way of a tear, raise a glass to what might have been, and conclude that I'm sure there'll be way more tears before bedtime yet...
