Get Fiki'n

This is a post for anyone bitten by the poetry/short story bug. I might say that it doesn't really include me. My forays into poetry are few and far between, relying on the maxim 'quality not quantity'. The short stories I've tried have been based on flights of fantasy, if you see what I mean, and are not suitable for sharing other than with the person for whom they were written...

However, for everything else, there is fiki.org. I don't mean Wiki, no. This is a site for collaborative writing, not of 'fact', but of fiction. It works along similar lines to Wikipedia and entries are anonymous, so if you do decide to try out your most execrable poetry on the world, you could do it with impunity!

Come to think of it, I do enjoy writing the odd execrable limerick...

Mike tries to explain the concept, with about as much success as me... but suggests that you need to click on the Fiki.org link to have a hope in hell's chance of understanding what on earth is going on. Once you do get the idea, it's quite fun wending your way around the link words.

Talking of writing, on a longer scale, I'm pretty pleased with my book progress. However, I am wondering if I shouldn't next time try a film script or radio play, as I seem to be happiest when writing dialogue. I've also noticed that when I'm reading a book, if there are endless reams of seemingly pointless polyfiller description, I tend to half read them waiting to get to the next exciting bit. It's a rare writer who can make the descriptive bits an integral part of the whole story. On the other hand, if the book is all mood, then naturally, the descriptive bits are important, but I do get the feeling sometimes that some writers need to make up the number of pages, so blather on about forests and fields.

Let me know if you manage to work out the Fiki circuit. As there doesn't seem to be any sort of quality control, maybe I'll gather together all my powers of concentration and try my hand at the Fiki maze. If I don't come back...
